| Nurul Hidayat Like many
others who now reside here in New Hampshire I have been employed variously as a bartender,
a bellhop, as a ski patrolman and for the last 11 years as a professional Mountain Guide.
After working for others most of my working life I have finally begun to realize my long
held dream of being self employed. I now balance my income between mountain guiding White Mountain Guides and developing web sites.
I developed my computer
skills and knowledge of the Internet, while pursuing a degree in Geography at the
University of New Hampshire. Initially utilizing PC's for academic work, I was also
fortunate to witness the birth of the World Wide Web. During the same time period I
started using graphics programs to create a topographic climbing guide to Cathedral &
Whitehorse Ledges. More computing power was necessary. I accepted the wisdom of Moore's
Law, convinced a friend of the same and upgraded. A lot of self study & long sessions
of surfing have helped me to develop Internet skills, knowledge and inspiration for
building web sites.
Craig and I launched Climb New Hampshire in January as a project that we
hoped would benefit the general climbing community. We learned a lot building our first
site and had fun as well. The knowledge we gained in our first project also provided
inspiration for building others. We put up this web site in June 1998 and have now built
over 20 web sites. We've been having a great time working with a lot of wonderful folks.
We look forward to many more projects in the future. |

| Arif Suwardi Hi Folks! I
moved to the Mount Washington Valley late in 1990 to pursue my love of climbing and the
mountains. I started out on a couch of course and started to look for work in December and
rallied with the restaurant scene. Climb by day work by night. I am now a professional
mountain guide and have been working for the Eastern Mountain Sports Climbing School for
about 3 years.
I got interested in computers when my partner needed some cash and
said, " Dude, you should buy my machine." So I did; that was March 93 and
a 286 machine. Local internet access had not come to the MWV yet. Learning to use the
Windows 3.1 platform, I developed an affinity to the home PC, playing games like
Wolfenstein and the like trying to assimilate the PC into my life. My 286 didnt last
too long because I couldnt hook up to AOL, (my first on-line experience), so I
upgraded to a 486. Yes my partner needed cash again. Along this time local internet access
became a reality and with that the World Wide Web. No outrageous phone bills any more.
I have been surfing the net for over 3 years learning what it takes to
operate and maintain a web site. In January 1997 our first web site was launched. Climb
New Hampshire was conceived as an, "Online Resource for Climbing in the Granite
State." My partner Uwe Schneider and I hope this information is helpful and welcome
your comments. |
